SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team pulled out a thrilling 97-93 double overtime win over the UNB Varsity Reds to cap off day one of the Gaiters Christmas Tournament.  Earlier in the day the No.2 McGill Martlets defeated the No. 10 Ryerson Rams 72-61 in Mitchell gym. 
 
UNB came out of the gate strong taking the halftime lead 39-28 over the Gaiters. Bishop's turned up the heat in the third quarter with a few timely shots from beyond the arc to tie it up, 55-55, with 10 minutes to play.  The Gaiters and Varsity Reds were evenly matched through the fourth frame, trading baskets until time ran out and the game was sent to overtime.
 
With the Bishop's faithful including the Gaiters men's basketball team making Mitchell Gym extra loud, the Gaiters fought back through the overtime period after trailing by as much as six points.  Bishop's and UNB needed five more minutes to decide the contest, tied 86-86 after the first overtime.
 
The Gaiters controlled the frame and with a three pointer by Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville) Bishop's solidified their 97-93 win over UNB. 
 
Fouls were an issue for both the Gaiters and Varsity Reds as Bishop's lost two players to foul trouble and UNB lost three.
 
Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/) led the Gaiters with 25 points and eight rebounds.  Laura Kaye had 27 points and nine rebounds for the Varsity Reds.

Ryerson was led by Jama Bin-Edward , she had points 19 and seven rebounds.
McGill was led by Frederique Potvin, she had 22 points and eight rebounds.
