LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's University Department of Athletics announced Thursday that football Offensive Coordinator Benoit Groulx is leaving the University, with immediate effect.

Groulx, 26, served two seasons as the Gaiters' Offensive Coordinator, after having been named to the post in January 2010.

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Ryan White, a former offensive lineman for the Bishop's Gaiters, has been chosen in the 2012 Canadian Football League Canadian Draft. White was chosen in the sixth round, 44th overall by the Montreal Alouettes. This marks the fourth straight year that the Gaiters have had at least one player chosen at the CFL's annual selection meeting.

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Jessy Roy (Val d'Or, Que.) and Josh Crone (Cambridge, Ont.) were named the Bishop’s University Athletes of the Year at the annual awards gala held tonight at the Delta hotel in Sherbrooke. Also winning major awards were Katie Ramm (Ottawa, Ont.) and Max Grouette (Surrey, B.C.), who were named Freshmen of the Year, while Lois Boateng (Montreal, Que.) and Matt McLean (Ottawa, Ont.) were named the winners of the Academic Student-Athlete of the Year Award. Christine Murphy, a longtime assistant with the Bishop's women's basketball team, was awarded the prestigious Ray Almond Award for her contributions to Bishop's Athletics. At the gala, over 40 awards were presented across all nine Bishop's athletic programs.

LENNOXVILLE, Que. - Three Gaiters have been named to the East team for the 2011 East-West Bowl, to be held in London, Ont. on May 12. Representing the Gaiters this year will be offensive lineman Adam Hughes (Brampton, Ont.), defensive lineman Elie Ngoyi (Sherbrooke, Que.) and defensive back Ryland Smith (Brampton, Ont.). The East-West Bowl, currently in its tenth season, primarily showcases CIS players who will be eligible for the CFL draft after the following season. The East team features players from the Quebec and Atlantic conferences, as well as Toronto, Ottawa and Queen's, while the West squad is comprised of players from Canada West and the remaining Ontario teams.

LENNOXVILLE, Que. - The Bishop's Gaiters 2012 football regular-season schedule was announced today. The Gaiters will again play a nine-game slate, with four games at historic Coulter Field, in 2012, highlighted by the annual Homecoming Game on September 29 against the McGill Redmen. All four home games will be on Saturday afternoons, at the traditional 1 p.m. start time.More...

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's University Department of Athletics announced today that Kevin Mackey has been named Head Coach of the Gaiters football program. Mackey is a five-year veteran of the Gaiters' coaching staff, and becomes the ninth head coach of the Gaiters in the modern era.

 

A native of Ascot Corner, Que. and long-time resident of the Eastern Townships, Mackey joined the Gaiters in 2007 as Defensive Backs coach. His responsibilities have steadily increased over his time at Bishop's, and he was promoted to Special Teams Coordinator in 2011.

“Kevin has been an important member of the football coaching staff for a number of years and we are pleased to see him step into the role of Head Coach,” said Bishop’s Athletic Director Tony Addona. “Bishop’s has always been a cradle for bright, young coaches, and I am sure Kevin will be no exception."

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Four former members of Bishop's Gaiters football team are set to play in the 99th Grey Cup on Sunday evening in Vancouver. The four players: Dan McCullough, James Yurichuk, Jamall Lee and Shawn Gore are all members of the B.C. Lions, the 2011 CFL Western Division Champions.

With four ex-players in the game, Bishop's will have the most representation of any CIS football school, and the second-highest total of any program (Simon Fraser has 6).

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Alexander Fox (Montreal West, Que.), a slotback and kick returner for the Bishop's Gaiters football team, has been named a Second Team All-Canadian by Canadian Interuniversity Sport. The CIS office made the announcement tonight, as part of the lead up to Friday night's Vanier Cup in Vancouver. This is the first career All-Canadian nod for the five-foot-eight, 186-pound sophomore.
