Gaiter Club

September 13, 2012

Athletics has played an important role at Bishop’s since 1873. Bishop’s now fields seven varsity and two club teams with over 200 student-athletes wearing the purple and silver. Our teams are drawn from the smallest student body in Canada, yet their success over the years illustrates the high calibre of student-athletes who become Gaiters.

The landscape has changed dramatically in the CIS, making it increasingly difficult to maintain the level of excellence that has come to be expected from Gaiter teams. New teams, new sports, the introduction of financial awards/bursaries, private/corporate funding models and university budgetary constraints all impact athletics.

To respond to these needs the Gaiter Club was created in 2003 to support and promote excellence in Bishop’s University Athletics. Gifts directed to the Gaiter Club provide direct support for our athletes and coaches beyond the annual budget provided by the University, enabling Bishop’s to attract the best student-athletes from across the country. In 2011-12 over $175,000 was made available to Bishop’s Athletics through Gaiter Club support.

You have high expectations of our Bishop’s teams, and so do I. Your financial support, through a charitable gift to the Gaiter Club, is essential for our teams to remain competitive in the CIS. The Gaiter Club is a great way to demonstrate your pride and support of our teams and athletes.

Thank you in advance for joining the team behind your teams – the Gaiter Club.
