LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Jessy Roy (Val d'Or, Que.) and Josh Crone (Cambridge, Ont.) were named the Bishop’s University Athletes of the Year at the annual awards gala held tonight at the Delta hotel in Sherbrooke. Also winning major awards were Katie Ramm (Ottawa, Ont.) and Max Grouette (Surrey, B.C.), who were named Freshmen of the Year, while Lois Boateng (Montreal, Que.) and Matt McLean (Ottawa, Ont.) were named the winners of the Academic Student-Athlete of the Year Award. Christine Murphy, a longtime assistant with the Bishop's women's basketball team, was awarded the prestigious Ray Almond Award for her contributions to Bishop's Athletics. At the gala, over 40 awards were presented across all nine Bishop's athletic programs.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
The Bishop’s Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Mike Dube of the men's lacrosse team. Dube, a native of Brockville, led the Gaiters with four goals in their 11-10 (OT) win over the McGill Redmen on Thursday night. The win pulled the Gaiters to within three games of the Redmen, with Bishop's having three games in hand.
 
HONOUR ROLL:
  • Gabrielle Chamberland, Women's Basketball - Was named tournament MVP over the weekend, after scoring 60 points over three games
  • Josh Crone, Lacrosse – Helped lead Gaiter offense last weekend
  • Luca Urbani, Football – Scored first career touchdown on Saturday
·         Onnex Blackwood, Men's Basketball – Led Gaiters on Friday with 18 points, 16 in the second half
  • Jessy Roy, Women's Basketball – Player of the Game on Friday after a team-high 15 points
  • Patrik Kabongo, Men's Basketball – Came off bench to spark Gaiters' comeback
  • Keegan Durovick, Lacrosse – Very strong performance in goal against McGill
  • Riley Shkimba, Women's Basketball – Named Gaiters' player of the game on Sunday
  • Ryon McCalla, Football – Ran for a career-high 45 yards on Saturday
  • Ross Wills, Lacrosse – Led Gaiter defence last weekend

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:

The Bishop’s Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Noah Harrison of the Men's Rugby team. Harrison, a fourth-year prop from Toronto, was the Gaiters' Man of the Match in their 8-0 win over Sherbrooke on Friday night. Harrison led the Gaiters' attack throughout the game, and his performance was highlighted by charging down a Concordia kick and scoring the Gaiters' only try of the match.
 
HONOUR ROLL:
  • Ryland Smith, Football – Knocked down four passes on Friday at McGill
  • David Malloy, Lacrosse – Led the Gaiters with five points on Sunday vs. Toronto
  • Alison Verville, Women's Soccer – Scored the Gaiter's goal on Friday vs. Concordia

  • LeeAnna Coates, Women's Rugby – Veteran No. 8 led Gaiters on Friday evening

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – An 8-0 shutout by Men's Rugby highlighted a trio of Bishop's Gaiters contests at Coulter Field on Friday night. The Gaiters, in a battle for second place, shut out the Concordia Stingers in a tight, defensive affair. Earlier in the evening, Women's Soccer fought to a 1-1 draw against the Stingers, while Women's Rugby lost to No. 3-ranked Laval.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
The Bishop’s Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Adam Moore of the Men's Rugby team. Moore, a second-year flanker from Dartmouth, N.S., was the Gaiters' Man of the Match in their 12-5 win over Sherbrooke on Friday night. Moore led the Gaiters with his strong defensive presence throughout the match. His hard work at breakdowns helped the Gaiters keep possession, steal the ball or slow down the Vert & Or offence. He set up the Gaiters' first try of the match by making a quick pass to Noah Harrison off a lineout.
 
HONOUR ROLL:
  • Keegan Durovick, Lacrosse – Made 19 saves in Gaiters' 12-11 loss to McGill on Thursday
  • Frédérique Cloutier, Women's Soccer – Scored the Gaiters' opening goal in Friday's tie with UQTR.
  • Kyle Kelly, Men's Rugby – Third-year prop carried the ball for over 40 yards on Friday
  • O'Shane Daley, Football – Led Gaiters' defence with 6.5 tackles, an interception and a knockdown
  • Lisa Boateng, Women's Rugby – Led Gaiters' defence on Friday against Sherbrooke
  • Josh Crone, Lacrosse – Led Gaiters with five goals on Thursday night
  • Patricia Murray, Women's Soccer – Rookie midfielder set up Gaiters' first goal on Friday

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – A 12-5 win by the Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby team was the highlight of the Gaiters' annual Homecoming Friday triple-header at Coulter Field. The Gaiters downed the Sherbrooke Vert & Or in a tense contest before nearly 1,000 fans. Earlier in the night, the Gaiters women's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw with the UQTR Patriotes, and women's rugby fell 34-0 to Sherbrooke.More...

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK:

The Bishop’s Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Jordan Heather of the Football team. Heather, a third-year quarterback from Oromocto, N.B., threw for a career-high 459 yards as he led the Gaiters to a 36-23 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday afternoon. Heather's total was a regular-season single-game record for the Gaiters, and one yard short of the all-time school record (460, set by Silvio Martel in a 1991 OQIFC semi-final). The third-year history major, playing in his first CIS game in his home province, completed 26 of 41 passes, including three touchdowns and one interception. This was Heather's second consecutive 300-yard game, in only his third career regular-season start.

 

HONOUR ROLL:

  • Mike Dube, Lacrosse – Led Gaiter offence with 7 points (4G, 3A) in 18-7 win over Trent
  • Noah Harrison, Men's Rugby – Gaiter captain had his strongest game yet in purple, leading Bishop's from the No. 8 position

  • Jesse Gattelaro, Lacrosse – Sparked BU offence with six points (4G, 2A) on Sunday vs. Trent
  • Steven Turner, Football – First 100-yard game since his return, with 5 catches for 125 yds.
  • Ross Wills, Lacrosse – Outstanding defensive effort in stifling potent Trent offense
  • Marie-Pierre Harvey, Women's Soccer – Rookie goalie made three saves in her first career start on Friday
  • Tyler Jutras, Football – Led Gaiters defence with six tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery
  • Andrew Mackay, Lacrosse – Midfielder won over 90% of his draws on Sunday vs. Trent
  • Lois Boateng, Women's Rugby – Provided strength in the back in Gaiters' loss to Concordia

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters saw action on three fronts on Friday night, as both rugby squads visited Concordia, while Women's Soccer hosted Laval. Men's Rugby picked up a 14-14 tie at Concordia, while Women's Rugby fell 94-0 to the Stingers and Women's Soccer lost 2-0 at home to Laval.
