BRUCE COULTER
Director of Athletics - Head Football Coach
Bruce Coulter was the cornerstone in developing the Athletic Department at Bishop’s into a first class organization. Hired in 1962 to lead the program and became the head football coach, Bruce quickly became one of the university’s major assets.
An engaging personality with outstanding people skills, Bruce became a very popular and well-known figure on campus with a genuine concern for the individual.
Deemed by many as the most innovative coach at any level in Canada, Bruce remains the C.I.A.U.’s most successful football coach with the most wins with a record of 137 wins, 80 losses and 2 ties.
In 1986, Bruce earned C.I.A.U. Coach of the Year honours.
Bruce’s legacy is such that the Gaiters now play on “Coulter Field”,
He retired in 1990
