LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer program continues to take steps forward. Beginning in January 2020, they will compete in the RSEQ University 11-on-11 indoor league.
The Carleton Ravens will also join the league alongside Bishop's to make a 10-team conference. The other schools participating are Montreal, Ottawa, Laval, UQTR, McGill, Concordia, UQAM and Sherbrooke.
The Gaiters will play their home games at Centre Roland Dussault in Sherboroke.
"This is significant," said Gaiters Head Coach
Paul Ballard. "It is a huge bonus and allows us to compete against our in-conference competition on a more regular basis. The more opportunities we have to play against the opponents the better. It will help us reach our desired outcome. It also makes or program more legitimate in the RSEQ and U SPORTS and will certainly help with recruiting."
Previously Bishop's competed in the indoor league from 2008 through 2011.
The RSEQ is the only conference in Canada that has a winter indoor league.
The Gaiters team will consist of the same roster that plays in the RSEQ University outdoor league in the fall.
Bishop's was in Kingston last weekend (Feb. 8-9, 2019) for three indoor exhibition games. They went 1-1-1. They beat Loyalist College 4-1, tied RMC 0-0 and fell 1-0 to Queen's.
