QUEBEC CITY, Que. – After a week off from RSEQ basketball action the Bishop's University women's basketball team opened a home-and-home series with No. 8 Laval Rouge et Or falling 80-55 at home on Friday night.  After a quick turnaround they lost 74-43 in Quebec City on Saturday night.

The Gaiters (0-8) matched the eighth ranked team in the nation till halftime but Laval pulled away and won 80-55 to take the first of two contests.  Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que.) led the Gaiters in scoring with 13 points.  She had six rebounds and four assists.  Joy Bermillo (Pointe-Claire, Que.) had 10 points and two rebounds and was perfect (2-2) from the charity stripe in 22 minutes on the floor.  Claudia Emond (Chicoutimi, Que.) led Laval with 16 points on 6-9 shooting and 4-7 from beyond the arc.

Bishop's had a short turnaround as they were on the road Saturday for a 5 p.m. tip-off versus Laval.  The Lady Gaiters fell 74-43.  Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que.) was a bright spot for the Gaiters grabbing a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Milhomme backed up her performance from the night before with seven points and six rebounds.  For the Rouge et Or, Sarah-Jane Marois (Quebec City) came off the bench to led Laval in scoring with 13 points in 22 minutes.  Genevieve Derome (Bonaventure, Que.) had 11 points and seven rebounds.  Laval out shot the Gaiters 40.3% to 23.1 % on the game.

"The back to back games are difficult for us with our short bench," said Coach Craig Norman. "We are working on getting better.  We are playing some of the best of the teams in the nation and I can really see an improvement."

The Gaiters are next on the court on Jan. 28 in Montreal and Jan. 30 in Lennoxville against No. 2 McGill both games will tip at 6 p.m.
