Bishop’s University Athletics & Recreation – Special Service Project Intern

- Prerequisite(s): Must have completed one (1) full year in the Sports Studies program at Bishop’s. Bilingualism is an asset; however, it is not a requirement.

Main Tasks and Projects
The student(s) will be assigned with developing a business proposal that explores the opportunity of adding a new High Performance Training Facility in the John H. Price Sports Centre. The incumbent will work closely with the Recreation Coordinator to develop a feasibility report identifying a number of fields:
- Facility & Equipment Analysis and Design
- Work with Bishop’s University staff to review the existing space and possible site design options (Head Trainer, Coaches, Other University's, B&G staff, etc.)
- Review of existing varsity room equipment, ratings/reviews of new equipment options and companies.
- Review of equivalent NCAA and USports varsity training facilities (speak with Head Trainers, Facility Managers, etc.)
- Budget and Fundraising Plan
- Determine total project costs: Site preparation, construction/architectural fees, purchase of new equipment, including re-purchasing plan and facility upkeep, cost of staffing new space, etc.
- Identify new revenue streams for the Department (membership opportunities), and fundraising opportunities (donors, naming rights, etc.)
- 3-year implementation plan
- Develop a three-year implementation plan
Learning Outcomes
The student(s) in this position will gain valuable hands-on experience working in the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Bishop’s University. This will provide personal growth and if done well, will be an excellent line on a resume. This internship is ideal for students wishing to improve and have experience in sports centre facility management, design, budgeting, including R & D and fundraising proposal development.

Bishop’s University Athletics & Recreation – Digital Media & Content Creation Intern

Main Tasks and Projects
The student will be assigned with managing the new Sports Centre Instagram and Facebook social media channels, including the management of information on the www.buy.gaiter.ca and www.gaiters.ca website. The incumbent will work closely with the Recreation Coordinator to develop a social media and content management strategy, including generating campaign ideas and reviewing analytics to gauge the success of the campaigns. This includes working with the Intramural intern to promote all intramural-related content.
Learning Outcomes
The student in this position will gain valuable hands-on experience working in the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Bishop’s University. This will provide personal growth and if done well, will be an excellent line on a resume. This internship is ideal for students wishing to improve and have experience in marketing and web communications. This internship will also require the student to learn and use a variety of photo and video editing software’s. In addition, this position will also require the student to work with several of the Office 365 applications, including Innosoft Fusion (recreation management software), giving them hands-on experience in using them in a work environment. They will work closely with the department to find best practices moving forward. Professionalism is key and the intern will learn to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. They will work with the department to find strategies to increase traffic to the Sports Centre social media channels and participation in recreation and intramural programs.
