SHERBROOKE, Que. – In the final contest of RSEQ women's basketball action in Mitchell Gym the Gaiters (0-14) fell 60-57 to the Concordia Stingers (6-9). Sophomore sensation,
Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que.) had a double-double, 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead Bishop's in both categories.
Bishop's and Concordia traded baskets though the first five minutes of the first frame, however the Stingers grabbed the early 11-8 lead to close out the quarter. Concordia came out shooting in the second to win the quarter 22-14 and take the 33-22 lead into the break.
After being outshot 6-25 (24%) to 13-24 (38.24%) in the first half the Gaiters found the basket in the second. They won the second half 35-27 on 14-30 (46.67%) shooting compared to the Stingers 10-31 (32.26%). Despite their second half push Bishop's came up short falling 60-57.
Ashley Milhomme, from Repentigny, Que. continued her fantastic freshman season with 11 points on 4-11 shooting and had four rebounds.
Concordia's Richelle Gregoire (Ste. Therese, Que.) led the team with 23 points and had eight rebounds. Latifah Roach from Montreal had nine points and eight rebounds.
Bishop's is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27 in Montreal against the No.1 McGill Martlets at 2 p.m.
