A balanced attack led No. 2-ranked Laval University to a 77-55 win over the Bishop's Gaiters in RSEQ women's basketball action at the PEPS in Quebec City, Friday. The league leading Rouge et Or had five players in double figures, led by 16 points from Gabrielle Girard.
 
Laval (16-2, 6-1 RSEQ) led 16-10 after the first quarter, and stretched their lead to 38-23 by halftime. The Gaiters stayed even with the hosts in the third, cutting the lead to 14 points, but Laval pulled away in the fourth quarter.
 
For Bishop's (6-6, 1-4 RSEQ), Maude Archambault (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que. /Collège Montmorency) was the only player in double figures, with 11 points. Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que. /Collège Montmorency) added eight points for Bishop's. Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina)'s eight rebounds led the Gaiters on the boards.
 
In addition to Girard's 16 points, Laval also got 14 points from Jane Gagné, 11 from Sarah-Jane Marois and ten each from Claudia Emond and Koralie Melançon.
 
The two teams close out their home-and-home series on Saturday in Lennoxville. Tipoff at the Mitchell Gym is set for 6 p.m.
