Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina) picked up her third double-double of the season, but it was not enough for the Bishop's Gaiters, as they fell 57-42 to the Concordia Stingers in RSEQ university women's basketball action in Montreal, Thursday. The veteran centre scored a team-high 12 points, and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Concordia (11-8, 4-5 RSEQ) raced out to an 11-2 lead, thanks to a 9-0 first-quarter run, but the Gaiters responded with a 14-0 run of their own to take a 16-11 lead early in the second quarter. However, that was the high point of the night for Bishop's, as Concordia took a 32-23 lead at halftime. The Stingers added to their edge in the third quarter, leading 50-29 after 30 minutes.
For Bishop's (6-10, 1-8 RSEQ), three other players all scored in double figures, as
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain),
Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que. /Collège Montmorency) and
Maude Archambault (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que. /Collège Montmorency) each scored 10 points.
Concordia was led by Richelle Gregoire, who had a game-high 15 points, while Marilyse Roy-Viau added 13. Caroline Task and Jazlin Barker each chipped in with 11.
The Gaiters outrebounded Concordia 41-34, but were hampered by hitting only 25.4% of their shots, and committed 29 turnovers, which led to 31 Stinger points.
