Maude Archambault (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que./Collège Montmorency) and
Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que./Collège Montmorency) each scored 17 points to lead the Bishop's Gaiters to a 66-59 win over the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees on Day 2 of the McKeen Metro Glebe women's basketball tournament in Ottawa. Milhomme and Archambault each made three three-pointers as the Gaiters (5-2) evened their record at the three-day tournament to 1-1.
The Gaiters led 35-34 at halftime, but pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Ottawa 21-11 in the period. In the fourth, the Gee-Gees pulled to within four points, but could draw no closer, suffering their first USports loss of the season. They are now 4-1 on the year. Before the Gaiters went on their third-quarter run, the game had featured 10 lead changes and five ties.
Two other Gaiters,
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) and
Eve-Marie Houle (Quebec, Que./Ste-Foy College), were in double figures with 10 points each, while rookie
Marie-Evrardine Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
For Ottawa, Brigitte Lefebvre-Okanku led with 19 points, while Amelie Hachey scored 11.
The Gaiters are back in action on Sunday at noon, as they close out the tournament against the University of Northern B.C. Timberwolves.
