Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que./Collège Montmorency) came off the bench to score 22 points and lead the Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team to a 75-71 win over the No. 6-ranked Laval Rouge et Or in Quebec university league action in Quebec City, Friday. The third-year guard went 9-for-17 from the field, including four three-pointers, as she led all scorers and helped Bishop's to their first win in La Vielle Capitale since Nov. 20, 2010.
Bishop's (7-4, 2-1 RSEQ) raced out to a 23-13 first-quarter lead, and led 43-34 at halftime. The Gaiters pulled ahead late in the first quarter, as they went on a 15-3 run over the last five minutes of the period, and they never trailed from that point on.
The other Gaiters in double figures were Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/) and Marie-Evrardine Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College), who scored 11 points apiece. Metchline Gabelus (Montreal, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) led the Gaiters on the boards, as she picked up five rebounds, while veteran point guard Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) made eight assists, a season high.
Laval (9-4, 1-2 RSEQ) had five players in double figures, led by 17 from Raphaelle Cote. Jane Gagne picked up a double-double in a losing cause, with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Carrie-Ann Auger had 11 points while Claudia Emond and Sarah-Jane Marois chipped in with 10 points each to round out the leaders for the sixth-ranked hosts.
The Gaiters are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 25, as they host the McGill Martlets at the Mitchell Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
