SHERBROOKE, Que. – It started the 2017-18 Bishop's Gaiters home varsity season off on a positive note. The Gaiters' women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Concordia Stingers on Thursday night on Coulter Field. Sure, a win was what head coach
Paul Ballard and his team wanted but sometimes a draw can push you in the right direction.
How it happened:
Concordia tallied early after Gaiters' defender
Taryn Morley (Ottawa, Ont./) was shown a yellow card in the box. Chama Sedki made no mistake from the penalty spot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Gaiters did not hang their heads or quit. They persevered. Ballard challenged his troops at halftime and they responded. Local rookie
Lindsay Moore (Lennoxville Qc/Champlain College Lennoxville) finished off a beautiful cross from
Sarah-Kim Bergeron (Calgary, Alta./Bishop Carroll S.S.) in the 65
th minute;
Larissa Lehmann (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) contributed by beating her defender down the right touch line and getting the ball to Bergeron.
Bishop's seemingly carried momentum and appeared to have scored the go-ahead goal in the 90
th minute however striker Frederique Rivard was offside and the Coulter Field faithful who were out cheering on the Gaiters settled for a hard-fought draw.
