SHERBROOKE, Que. - Kayla LeTouzel (L'Orignal, Ont./St. Mary's)'s four points led the No. 8-ranked Bishop's University Gaiters to a 5-2 win over No. 7 Northeastern University in American Collegiate Hockey Association women's action at the Jane and Eric Molson Arena, Sunday. The third-year forward scored the game-winning goal and added three assists as the Gaiters completed the sweep of the Huskies in their first home weekend of ACHA play.
How it happened:
As they did on Saturday afternoon, the Gaiters (5-1) came out strongly, taking a 3-0 lead in the first 7:25 of the game, before Northeastern (5-4) had even registered a shot on goal. The teams traded goals later in the first period, as the Gaiters took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. Northeastern scored the only goal of the second, while Bishop's put the game away with a goal by Jessica Belanger (Sherbrooke) midway through the third period.
In total, five different players found the net for the Gaiters, as LeTouzel and Belanger were joined on the scoresheet by Arianne Charette (Sainte-agathe-des-monts, Que. /The Winchendon School ), Stephanie Cunningham (Markham, Ont./Bill Crothers) and Danielle Armand (Montreal, Que. ). Paige Stathopolous and Estelle Ip replied for the Huskies. Jessica Caputo (Montreal, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) made 17 saves to pick up the win for Bishop's, while Northeastern's Erika Dudek turned aside 32 of 37 shots in a losing cause.
