MONTREAL –
Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/) had a career high 36 points as she led the Gaiters to their first win over the Concordia Stingers in Montreal in eight years. Bishop's beat Concordia 81-67 on Thursday night.
Concordia seemed to have control of the contest for most of the first half but a late second quarter push had the Gaiters and Stingers tied 37-37 at halftime. The contest stayed close through the third quarter but Bishop's had the 55-53 advantage heading into the last 10 minutes. The Gaiters dominated the fourth frame. They outscored the Stingers 26 -14, 16 of the Gaiters points came from the hands of Marchizotti. Bishop's took the lead early in the fourth and held it for the 81-67 win.
Marchizotti's 36 points is the highest single game point total in the RSEQ in the last 10 years. She was 17-24 from the floor and 2-5 from the line.
Backing up Marchizotti's performance was
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) with a double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds. She was 5-13 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe. Noblecilla had six assists and six steals. Rookie
Marie-Evrardine Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) had seven points and 10 rebounds in her 32 minutes on the floor.
For the Stingers, Caroline Task led the way with 16 points and Coralie Dumont had 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
The last time the Gaiters beat the Stingers was on Jan. 28, 2017 in Lennoxville and the last time they won at Concordia was on Jan. 22, 2010.

After the second game in the home-and-home with the Stingers on Jan. 20 in Lennoxville, the Gaiters will take on the McGill Martlets in a home-and-home series. The teams will play on Friday, Jan. 26 in Mitchell Gym at 6 p.m., with the return match the next day in Montreal, starting at 4 pm.
