Gaiters open ACHA Campaign at UMASS

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Three games in three days against ACHA Division one opponents is what the Bishop's Gaiters women's hockey team faces as they open their 2018-19 season this weekend in Amherst, Mass.

Weekend Schedule
Fri. Oct. 12 vs. Colorado St. at 4:30 p.m.
Sat. Oct. 13 vs. UMASS-Amhurst at 6:30 p.m.
Sun. Oct. 14 vs. Liberty at 7 a.m.

Bishop's has yet to play a game while Colorado State is 3-2-0, UMASS-Amhurst is 3-0-0 and Liberty sits at 2-0-1.

Coach's corner
"We don't know anything about these teams," said Dominic Desmarais, the Gaiters' first-year head coach. "We know it will be a good test and we are excited.  We will focus on ourselves.

"Three games in three days is going to be tough but we have prepared a detailed schedule for the team to ensure they get the rest and nutrition they need.  We want them focused on the task. The early morning won't be an issue as we are used to practicing at 6:30."

Season overview
A year after losing in the semifinal of the division two national championship, the Gaiters look to take the next step. Despite playing against a trio of division one teams this weekend, Bishop's will remain in division two.

Their complete schedule is available here.

The Gaiters have been in camp since early September and have yet to play a game.

"Our long camp has been good for skill improvement and team identity, but we are excited to play a game," Desmarais added.

"Our team has strong players at every position. We have two quick goalies that give us a chance to win.  We are young (13 freshmen) but the team has a good hockey IQ and we move the puck well."
