LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Four Bishop's Gaiters scored in double figures in Saturday night's RSEQ University first-semester finale but the McGill Martlets pulled away to a 65-59 victory in the Mitchell Gym.
The Gaiters had a strong start scoring the game's first seven points, but the story of the game was Gladys Hakizimana. She hitting her fifth three of the game with 1:21 remaining in the fourth quarter when the game was tied 59-59 to give the Martlets a 62-59 lead.
The loss pushes the Gaiters to 1-5 on the season while the Martlets improve to 3-2.
The Gaiters led after the first quarter 15-10, at half 37-31 and after the third quarter 52-48. A strong fourth quarter from the Martlets put the game in their favour as they outscored the Gaiters 17-7.
Marie Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) had a strong game for the Gaiters, as she posted 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Teammate
Metchline Gabelus (Montreal, Que./Champlain College St-Lambert) was a perfect two for two from beyond-the-arc to post 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.
For the Martlets, Sirah Diarra had 10 points and a game high 19 rebounds. Hakizimana had a game high 17 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists.
Next up
The Gaiters will be hosting a Christmas Tournament starting Dec. 29. They have scheduled games against the Ottawa Gee-Gees on the Dec. 29 and the Carleton Ravens on the Dec. 30. Their next RSEQ game will be Jan. 10 against the Concordia Stingers in Montreal.
