LENNOXVILLE, Que – Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) scored 28 points including two massive three pointers in the final two minutes as the No.8 Bishop's Gaiters beat the UQAM Citadins 71-67 in their 2019-20 RSEQ University Women's Basketball home opener in Mitchell Gym on Saturday night.
 
Marie Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) added 16 while rookies Deborah Aboagaye (Montreal, Que./) and Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./) each netted 10 in the win.
 
Bishop's got off to a quick start and extended their lead to as many as 17 in the second quarter before UQAM started to claw their way back. Siciliano scored 21 of her 28 points in the first half to pace Bishop's to 19-10 and 38-28 leads after the first and second quarters. The Citadins turned it on after the break; they outscored Bishop's 25-11 in the third quarter and grabbed a 53-49 lead with 10 minutes to go. The young Gaiters showed resilience in the fourth.
 
Siciliano, a member of the 2018-19 U SPORTS all-rookie team, capped the comeback with a pair of massive three-pointers in the final minutes including the dagger with a minute to go as the shot clock expired to propel the Gaiters to a 71-67 victory, their second of the week.
 
Inga Aleksaitete scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the loss for UQAM who falls to 1-2.
 
Bishop's is now 2-0 and will play McGill (0-2) on Thursday night in Mitchell Gym at 6 p.m.
