It was a dream start for the Gaiters in must win game. They started 5-5 from the field and grabbed an 11-0 lead before timely UQAM three-point shooting chipped away at the lead.
Bishop's parlayed that into a 25-16 advantage after one quarter, while the Citadins replied by winning the second 16-7 to even the score at 32 at halftime.
A 23-8 third quarter from the Citadins forced the Gaiters to the brink, and despite a late push, the they were unable to dig themselves out of the hole. UQAM went onto a 70-57 victory and clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in the conference.
Bishop's finished just 31.9 percent from the floor and 22.7 percent from three-point range while UQAM connected at 32.9 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from behind the arc.
"I think this game was indicative of a lot of our games this year," said Gaiters' bench boss
Craig Norman. "We played a strong first half but seemed to falter in the second half. It was size against speed, size doesn't get smaller but speed can slow down. I am proud, we are young and gained a lot of experience tonight, it was like a playoff game."
The loss ends the Gaiters season at 2-14 while UQAM moves onto play the Laval Rouge et Or in the RSEQ semifinal on Wednesday.
