LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The No. 1 ranked Laval Rouge et Or once again showed their depth as they cruised to an 86-61 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters on Saturday night in Lennoxville in RSEQ University women's basketball action.
Nine Laval players saw the court for at least 10 minutes. Jane Gagne led the way with 18 points; Sarah-Jean Marois scored 17, Claudia Emon 11 and Lea Dominique tallied a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
For Bishop's
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) and
Metchline Gabelus (Montreal, Que./Champlain College St-Lambert) each scored 13 while
Maude Archambault (St-Augustine-de-Desmaures, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) and
Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) chalked up 12 a piece. All five of the Gaiters starters each played 33 minutes or more.
It was tight after the first quarter, the visitors led 25-22 and just 42-35 at the break. Laval flexed their muscles in the third stanza out-scoring Bishop's 27-13 to put the game out of reach before going onto the 86-61 victory.
Bishop's falls to 2-12 on the year but still have playoff aspirations. They are just a half game behind UQAM (2-11) and have one game remaining with the Citadins on Feb. 23.
Laval remains the class of the nation and the only undefeated team in Canada. They are 13-0 in conference play and 22-0 overall versus U SPORTS competition.
Next up Bishop's plays their final home game of the 2018-19 season next Saturday, Feb. 16 against the Concordia Stingers (8-5). Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
