LENNOXVILLE, Que –Bishop's Gaiters sophomore
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) led all scorers with 25 points but Maire-Pier Champagne knocked down a three-pointer with six seconds left to seal the deal for the No. 8 Laval Rouge et Or and propel them to a 60-55 victory. It was their second of the year over the Gaiters, this one in Lennoxville on Thursday night.
The win moves Laval atop the RSEQ University women's basketball standings at 6-2 while the Gaiters fall to 4-2. The foes will play the back end of a home-and-home on Saturday in Quebec City. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at PEPS.
Siciliano finished with 25 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal while playing all 40 minutes. Rookie
Deborah Aboagye (Montreal, Que.) was the only other Gaiter in double figures with 10 points. All five starters for the Gaiters played at least 33 minutes as they continue to battle injuries.
For the Rouge et Or, former Gaiter,
Maude Archambault (St-Augustine-de-Desmaures, Que./Cegep de Montmorency), who is in grad school at Laval, retuned to Mitchell Gym and led the Rouge et Or with 15 points, while Khaleann Goudreault added 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Champagne finished with nine.
