LENNOXVILLE, Que. – RSEQ MVP
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) scored 17 points in her playoff debut for the Bishop's Gaiters but they were upset by the UQAM Citadins 61-48 in Mitchell Gym on Wednesday night in an RSEQ University Women's Basketball semifinal.
Inga Aleksaite scored 14 points and grabbed 20 rebounds while Clara Blachier led all scorers with 19 and Roxanne Douaire added 16 for UQAM. The Citadins move onto face the Laval Rouge et Or in conference final while Bishop's season comes to a close.
Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) and
Marie Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) each grabbed 10 rebound to lead Bishop's in that category.
A physical start to the game kept it close through 10 minutes. UQAM led 14-10 after the first quarter in a stanza where the teams committed just three total fouls. Bishop's responded in another low-scoring frame and grabbed a 23-21 lead at the break.
The Citadins heated up in the second half and eventually took control of the game and went onto the 61-48 win. In all there were six lead changes, five in the first half.
Bishop's has zero graduates as the young squad will turn their attention to the U SPORTS awards as Siciliano is up for national player of the year and
Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) Rookie of the Year on Wednesday.
