LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Basketball players
Amaiquen Siciliano and
Nervens Demosthene have been named the 2020 Bishop's University Athletes of the Year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards were released virtually across the Bishop's Gaiters social media platforms.
Athletes of the Year
Male:
Nervens Demosthene (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency), Men's Basketball
Female:
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield), Women's Basketball
Both
Siciliano and
Demosthene led the RSEQ in scoring in 2019-20. Siciliano was named conference MVP and a first team all-Canadian while Demosthene earned a first team RSEQ all-star selection and led the Gaiters to the 2020 RSEQ Championship.
Freshmen of the Year
Female:
Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency), Women's Basketball
Male:
Carl Jacob (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville), Men's Basketball
Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) and
Carl Jacob (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville), also both basketball players were named the Freshmen of the Year; an award given to the top performing Bishop's University student-athletes in their first year of eligibility.
Kabunda was the Rookie of the Year in the RSEQ and U SPORTS and was second in scoring and rebounding in the conference. Jacob earned an RSEQ all-rookie team selection and was a key cog in the Gaiters' conference title run.

Karl Szabo (Quebec City, Que./Lawrenceville School), Men's Lacrosse
Female:
Jessica Dodig (Bolton, Ont./Brams United), Women's Soccer
Women's soccer player
Jessica Dodig (Bolton, Ont./Brams United) (Bolton, Ont.,/Bill Crothers SS) and lacrosse defender
Karl Szabo (Quebec City, Que./Lawrenceville School) took home the top Academic Student-Athletes of the Year. The award combines academic success and on-field performance.
Dodig is a leader on the women's soccer team and stellar business student while Sazbo is also the Lacrosse Defensive MVP an excellent education student.
Ray Almond Award
The prestigious Ray Almond Award is given annually to a dedicated member or members of the Bishop's community who rises above and beyond the expected to provide and invaluable service to Gaiter Athletics. This year it was awarded to longtime voice of the Bishop's Gaiters
Luke Connelly who graduates in 2020 after calling countless Gaiters events.
