LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer team competed at home for the first time in October on Friday night in a match-up with the Laval Rouge et Or.
Laval controlled the play early but it was the Gaiters who got on the scoreboard first off of a quick Bishop's counter-attack. Shannon Phee (Ottawa, ON/St. Mark C.H.S.) came down the wing with speed and played a perfect pass that was picked up by Andrea Boily who was able to find the back of the Laval net in the 8' minute.
Mathilde Rousseau evened the score for the Rouge et Or late in the first half to make the score 1-1 after 45 minutes.
Both teams came out of the break with a renewed energy, picking up the tempo and increasing the physicality from the second half kick-off. After offensive opportunities for both teams, an unlucky bounce off of a Bishop's defender crossed the goal line in the 74' minute to give the Rouge et Or a one goal advantage. Laval was awarded a penalty shot late in the second half but it soared over the net. Despite much of the final sixteen minutes being controlled by the Gaiters, the purple and white were unable to catch a break and Laval finished the game on top with a 2-1 score line.
The Gaiters had six attempts at goal, including Boily's that found the back of the net. The loss drops Bishop's to 2-5 (8 points) while Laval improves to 6-1-2 (20 points) on the season.
Andrea Boily was named the game MVP for the Gaiters.

The Gaiters are back at home on Sunday to face the Montreal Carabins, the #2 team in the nation. Game time is 3PM.
