LENNOXVILLE, Que. - After trailing at the half, the Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team completed an impressive comeback to secure an 84-67 victory over the UQAM Citadins in the final contest of the semester.
After trailing at the end of the first two quarters by as much as 7 points, the Gaiters returned to the court with a renewed energy after the halftime break. Bishop's outscored UQAM in the final two frames, putting up 48-points while holding the Citadins to just 26 points. The Gaiters stuck to the game plan on offense and defense in the closing 20 minutes to get the win. The Gaiters had 15 second chance points and 35 points off of the bench which propelled the purple and white to their third win of the RSEQ regular season.
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) and
Victoria Gauna (Mendoza, Argentina/) combined for 43 points for the Gaiters in the second home contest of the 2021-22 season. Siciliano and Gauna recorded the only double-doubles of the game. The junior guard had 22 points and 23 assists while the rookie forward pulled in 10 rebounds to add to her 21 points.
Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) and
Jennifer Louis (Montreal, Que./Cegep Edouard-Montpetit) both scored in double digits with 12 and 10 points respectively. The Gaiters shot 46.2% from 3-point range, scoring 12 triples throughout the contest.
When discussing the game, head coach,
Craig Norman, was impressed with how the team dug in after the break and wore UQAM down. "We locked UQAM down in the third quarter and continued to do that throughout the fourth. It was a big win for our program." With the December break ahead, Norman emphasized the importance of regrouping and healing up before heading into second semester.
Next Up
The Gaiters will now head into the December break before returning to RSEQ action on Thursday January 13th and Saturday January 15 for a home and home with the Concordia Stingers.
