LENNOXVILLE – Two third period goals were not enough as the Bishop's Gaiters women's hockey team fell 5-2 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday afternoon in Lennoxville.
Maude Pepin and
Mackenzie Borgfjord (Lorette, Man./Shaftsbury H.S.) scored for Bishop's who made a push in the third period after trailing early.
Ottawa scored twice in the opening stanza to jump out to a 2-0 lead. It was all Gee-Gees early on as they out-shot Bishop's 18-5 in the period.
The score remained that way until Pepin scored on the power play in the third to cut the advantage in half.
The Gee-Gees answered a minute later to re-gain their two-goal edge. Bishop's refused to let up and Borgfjord pounced on a loose puck to give the Gaiters hope with 10:52 to go.
Ottawa again replied with 4:20 remaining then added an empty netter to make the final 5-2.
Charley Wing (Huntsville, Ont./Mother Teresa C.S.S.) was between the pipes for Bishops; she made 34 saves in the loss.
The loss drops Bishop's to 1-3-0 while the Gee-Gees improve to 2-2-0 through two weekends of RSEQ University action.
The Gaiters are next in action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Montreal to face the McGill Martlets (3-0-0).
