Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball player, Victoria Gauna, is making strides in her career before ever stepping foot in Lennoxville. The 19-year-old from Mendoza, Argentina has been selected to represent her country on the court as a member of the Argentina roster for the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2021.
"The program is extremely excited to have an athlete of Victoria's caliber join our program. What excites us even further is her depth of character which is exceptional", said Gaiters' head coach,
Craig Norman. "Victoria brings an unbelievable work ethic that is unusually high for such a young athlete. She is driven to succeed, improve and develop."
Gauna is currently a player for Deportivo Berazategui of Liga Femenina de Basqetbol. She has extensive high-performance experience and is a previous member of Team Argentina for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games and 2019 ANOC World Beach Games.
"Playing in the AmeriCup will be an invaluable experience in Victoria's development as an elite athlete. She will be training and competing with the best players in the world. She will bring this with her to BU and both Victoria and our program will benefit greatly."
Argentina has been drawn to play in Group B where they will face the USA, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in the Group Phase. The competition is set to get underway this Friday June 11 with Argentina lining up against the Dominican Republic on the first day of action.
