Guard
Brockville, Ont.
Connor Kelly (Brockville, Ont./St. Mary's C.S.S.), a fourth-year sports studies student from Brockville, Ont., has made the most of his Bishop's experience and exemplifies what it truly means to be a student-athlete.
On the court, Kelly has been a backbone of the Gaiters' offense in recent years. This season, he has started all ten conference games for Bishop's, playing over 350 minutes in the process. The Brockville local shot 41.3% from the field and 41.8% from 3-point range throughout the 2021-22 RSEQ season and has recorded 41 rebounds, 20 assists and 12 steals. Amongst his teammates and the other Gaiter student-athletes, Kelly has taken on a leadership role and represents his team on the Student-Athlete Leadership Council.
When he isn't on the court, Kelly has focused on giving back to his community, both in his hometown and in the Lennoxville community. Connor is a Student Engagement Coordinator with the Bishop's motionball Committee where he spreads awareness to other students on-campus about motionball and its connection to Special Olympics. In addition, Kelly is a yearly participant in the Terry Fox Run, has volunteered with the ETSB Christmas Basket Campaign and is the owner of Through the Hoop Basketball Training where he develops aspiring basketball players in his hometown of Brockville.
Outside of his community involvement, the senior guard has prioritized his academics, achieving success in the classroom and is a 3x Academic All-Canadian. Kelly is currently earning practical experience in his field prior to graduation as he manages the social media accounts for Bishop's University Sports Medicine and the Old Lennox Golf & Ski as the Digital Marketing Intern for the Athletics & Recreation Department.
"Connor is the epitome of a student-athlete. He works hard on and off the court. He's involved in a number of initiatives and represents our team on the Student-Athlete Leadership Council. His work with motionball in benefit of the Special Olympics is also a significant time commitment. On the court, Connor is one of the best pure shooters that I've coached. Our entire coaching staff is proud of Connor and could not think of a better recipient of this award."
