LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Laurie Fontaine scored at the 15:15 mark of the second period to give the Montreal Carabins a lead they did not relinquish on their way to a 4-1 victory and 2-0 series win over the Bishop's Gaiters on Saturday night in Lennoxville.
The win gave Montreal the RSEQ University Women's Hockey Bronze medal and marked the last game of the inaugural year in U SPORTS for the Bishop's Gaiters.
Bishop's pushed in the early stages as they looked to stave off elimination. Blue liner Noemie Thibault put Bishop's on the board midway through the first stanza as she floated in a wrist shot in from the point.
That was all the scoring in the first period as Aglae Rene De Cotret stood strong for Bishop's stopping all seven of the shots she faced.
The second period was a different story as Montreal pushed from the start. They out-shot the hosts 18-6 in the frame and Kelly-Ann Nadeau finally cracked Rene De Cotret at the 5:29 mark to even the score. Fontaine scored just under 10 minutes later to make the score 2-1. It stayed that way heading into the third.
Bishop's pushed hard and Rene De Cotret stood tall as the score line remained the same until Montreal added a power play empty net goal with 29 seconds remaining on an individual effort from Mylene Lefebvre. Raphaelle Pouliot scored as time expired for a 4-1 final.
Rene De Cotret made 33 stops in the loss, while Aube Racine made 16 saves en route to securing the bonze medal for her team.

The Gaiters inaugural U SPORTS campaign ended with the loss, but they were able to take many positives. The young squad played in three playoff-type series, winning two of them. There were many highs along the way including an unforgettable home opener against the Carabins where the Gaiters prevailed in front of a boisterous crowd in the Jane & Eric Molson Arena.
