MONTREAL, Que. -  After returning to the mat for the first time in 756 days, the Bishop's Gaiters cheerleading team aced their routine at the first and only competition of the 2021-22 RSEQ season.

Although cheerleading places great emphasis on the team, two Gaiters earned RSEQ All-Star honours.

Rookie Emma Jones (Gatineau, Que./Cégep Heritage College) and fourth-year Kaileigh Helmer (Williamsburg, Ont./St. Michaels C.H.S.) were announced as a First Team All-Star and Second Team All-Star, respectively.

Jones, a first-year who hails from Gatineau, Quebec and studies modern languages at Bishop's has ample cheerleading experience and earns her first RSEQ All-Star honour. 

"Despite her cheer experience, Emma takes every coaching comment seriously and works hard to make the necessary corrections to ensure she can be the best she can be," said Gaiters head coach, Sève Janelle. "As a coach, I can always rely on Emma to communicate with her teammates throughout the routine. She has an amazing attitude and helps set a standard as to what a Gaiter student-athlete should be."
 

Kaileigh Helmer (Williamsburg, Ont./St. Michaels C.H.S.) - RSEQ Second Team All-Star

A fourth-year studying psychology, Kaileigh Helmer (Williamsburg, Ont./St. Michaels C.H.S.) earns her first nod as an RSEQ Second Team All-Star. As a captain of the Gaiters, Helmer is a reliable athlete that always shows up for each team member.

"I can always count on Kaileigh's communication skills in practice to bring people together, especially before a run or during harder practices," said Janelle. " She was a key to the team's success this year and I couldn't have done it without her leadership."
