LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Victoria Gauna (Mendoza, Argentina/) scored 24 points and added eight rebounds and Kalina Alexander-Renaud (Montreal, QC/) chipped in with 18 points as the Bishop's Gaiters topped the Concordia Stingers 77-67 on Wednesday night in an RSEQ Semifinal in Lennoxville.
 
The win moves Bishop's back into the RSEQ Championship for the second consecutive year.  They will travel to Laval to face the Rouge et Or on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Quebec City.
 
 
Bishop's jumped out to an early lead, capped by Gauna knocking down a shot as time expired in the first quarter to put the hosts up 24-17.  Bishop's extended their advantage in the second thanks in part to a pair of baskets in the final four seconds to head into the break up 42-29.
 
The Gaiters pushed their lead to 17 early in the third before Concordia chipped away. Bishop's was up 58-46 after three quarters as the Stingers started making a run.  They got within three points then Eve Atchampone (Trois-Rivieres, QC/CEGEP St-Jean) made the play of the game when she stole the ball and finished strong at the rim to send the 525 fans in Mitchell Gym into a frenzy.  Concordia again cut the lead down to three with 1:20 left but Bishop's remained poised and closed it out by a final of 77-67.
 

Marianne Boithias (Montbrison, FRA/) scored 14 points and Atchampone rounded out the Gaiters in double figures with 12.
 
Serena Tchida led Concordia with 21 points while Areej Burgonio scored 14 and Rowena Blais 10 in the loss.
 
Bishop's shot 13-17 from the charity stripe.  They also out-rebounded Concordia 46-38 and outscored them 28-16 in the paint.
 
Prior to the game, the 2023-24 RSEQ All-Stars were honoured.  For Bishop's that included Gauna, Alexander-Renaud, Atchampone, Jasmine Martel (Sorel-Tracy, QC/Cegep de Trois-Rivieres) and Laurie Lafleur (Quebec City, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville).
 

 
The Gaiters turn their attention to the undefeated Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday with an RSEQ title on the line.

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Victoria Gauna (Mendoza, Argentina/) a marqué 24 points et ajouté huit rebonds, tandis que Kalina Alexander-Renaud (Montreal, QC/) a contribué avec 18 points alors que les Gaiters de Bishop's ont battu les Stingers de Concordia 77-67 mercredi soir lors d'une demi-finale de la RSEQ à Lennoxville.
 
La victoire replace Bishop's dans le championnat de la RSEQ pour la deuxième année consécutive. Ils se rendront à Laval pour affronter les Rouge et Or samedi à 15h à Québec.
 
Bishop's a pris un départ rapide, couronné par un tir de Gauna à la dernière seconde du premier quart-temps, permettant aux hôtes de mener 24-17. Bishop's a étendu son avantage au deuxième quart grâce en partie à deux paniers dans les quatre dernières secondes pour partir en pause avec une avance de 42-29.
 
Les Gaiters ont poussé leur avance à 17 en début de troisième quart avant que Concordia ne réduise l'écart. Bishop's menait 58-46 après trois quarts alors que les Stingers commençaient à réagir. Ils sont revenus à trois points, puis Eve Atchampone (Trois-Rivieres, QC/CEGEP St-Jean) a réalisé le jeu du match en volant le ballon et en terminant fort au cercle, envoyant les 525 fans du gymnase Mitchell dans une frénésie. Concordia a de nouveau réduit l'écart à trois points avec 1:20 restante, mais Bishop est resté concentré et a clôturé le match sur un score final de 77-67.

Bishop's a réussi 13-17 aux lancers francs. Ils ont également dominé Concordia au rebond 46-38 et les ont surpassés 28-16 a l'intérieur.
