Game Recap: Women's Hockey | | Marty Rourke, Manager of Communications for Athletics & Recreation

Gaiters top McGill 3-1 on Seniors’ Saturday in Lennoxville

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Senior Maude Pépin (Pont-Rouge, QC, Cegep Limoilou) scored a goal and added an assist and rookie Gabrielle Santerre (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville) iced the game with an empty netter as the Bishop's Gaiters topped the McGill Martlets 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Lennoxville.

Pepin, who leads the RSEQ and is tied at the top of the U SPORTS table with 18 goals, scored on the power play with 1:38 left in the second to put Bishop's up 1-0.

She assisted on the Gaiters second goal when Justine Turcotte (Drummondville, QC/John Abbott College) banged home a rebound at the 8:35 mark of the second period.  McGill cut the deficit in half after Mika Change scored on a 5-on-3 power play midway through the third.

With the goalie pulled, and McGill applying pressure, captain Marie-Camille Théorêt (Magog, Que., Champlain-Lennoxville) made a great pass Santerre who buried the puck in the empty net. Santerre now leads U SPORTS in scoring with 39 points, six more than second place.

Senior goalies Charley Wing (Huntsville, ON/Mother Teresa C.S.S.) and Faith Miller (Oro-Medonte, ON/Eastview S.S.) split the game between the pipes. Each made 13 saves.

Bishop's finished 2-7 on the power play while McGill was 1-3.

The win is the Gaiters fourth straight and they improve to 7-2 in 2024.

Prior to the game the Gaiters celebrated their graduating seniors.  They were Pepin, Theoret, Wing, Miller, Krystele Fontaine (Lac-Brome, QC/Cegep Saint-Laurent), Gabrielle Rousseau (Sherbrooke, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville), Majorie Bolduc (Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville), Jöelle Gagnon (Val Therese, ON, College Notre-Dame), Catherine Berger-Dubé (Granby, QC, Cegep Limoilou), Ella Watson (Kars, ON/St.Mark H.S.) and Noémie Garneau (Quebec City, QC, Cegep Limoilou).

WHK Seniors 2024

The Gaiters are next in action on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Montreal to face the Concordia Stingers.

The Gaiters magic number is 1 – either one more Gaiters' victory or a Montreal Carabins loss will result in Bishop's clinching second place and have home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
