The Gaiters Women's Soccer team continues to bring passion and precision to the pitch. Sophia Liagridonis (Ottawa, ON/Holy Trinity Catholic H.S.), Michaela Marenchin (Windsor, ON/École Secondaire Catholique E.J Lajeunesse), and Kate Smyth (St. Catharines, ON/Sir Winston Churchill S.S.) have each found the back of the net, while Savannah Baillargeon (Windsor, ON/Sandwich S.S.) has contributed 2 goals and consistent play.

Most recently they faced up to RSEQ's top team, the Montréal Carabins. In this match, many said Gaiters would struggle containing the tenacious offence the Carabins are known for. However, the Gaiters held strong and forced the number one team in the RSEQ to a 0-0 contest showcasing their grit and defensive ability.

More specifically, on the defensive end, the Women's Soccer team has been led by the steady play of our senior, and dual sport athlete, Marijke Meindertsma (Abbotsford, BC/MEI S.S.) whose ability to read the game and intercept passes, while also being the anchor has been vital. The goalkeeping from Stephanie Brooks (Dresden, ON/Wilfrid Laurier University) this past week has been stellar, Brooks showed up for the Gaiters and was another key to our 0-0 tie against the Carabins and McGill. Overall, the camaraderie has kept the team in tight matches, and their defensive cohesion continues to be a strength as the season progresses.

Key upcoming matches all slated for our Homecoming weekend against teams like UQAM (September 26^th), and Sherbrooke (September 28^th) will be critical in shaping the Gaiters' playoff hopes. With momentum building and the squad looking to take its first big win, these contests offer a chance to showcase their defensive grit and attacking flair.

L'équipe féminine de soccer des Gaiters continue d'apporter passion et précision sur le terrain. Tout récemment, elles ont affronté la meilleure équipe du RSEQ, les Carabins de Montréal. Dans ce match, plusieurs pensaient que les Gaiters auraient du mal à contenir l'offensive tenace pour laquelle les Carabins sont connus. Pourtant, vos Gaiters de Bishop's ont tenu bon et ont forcé la meilleure équipe du RSEQ à un match nul 0-0, démontrant notre ténacité et notre capacité défensive.

Plus précisément, sur le plan défensif, l'équipe féminine de soccer a été menée par le jeu stable de notre vétérane et athlète multisport, Marijke Meindertsma (Abbotsford, BC/MEI S.S.), dont la capacité à lire le jeu et intercepter les passes, tout en étant le pilier de la défense, a été essentielle. Notre gardienne Stephanie Brooks (Dresden, ON/Wilfrid Laurier University) a été exceptionnelle cette semaine, se montrant à la hauteur pour nos Gaiters et jouant un rôle clé dans nos matchs nuls 0-0 contre les Carabins et McGill. Dans l'ensemble, la camaraderie a permis à l'équipe de rester compétitive dans des matchs serrés, et leur cohésion défensive demeure une force au fil de la saison.

Les matchs clés à venir, tous prévus durant le week-end du Homecoming contre des équipes comme l'UQAM (26 septembre) et Sherbrooke (28 septembre), seront déterminants pour les espoirs de séries éliminatoires des Gaiters. Avec l'élan qui se construit et l'équipe cherchant à décrocher une première grande victoire, ces rencontres offriront une occasion de mettre en valeur leur ténacité défensive et leur flair offensif.
