MONTREAL – Both the Bishop's University men's and women's rugby teams were in action on Thursday night in Montreal. It was the last game of the season for the women's squad who lost 77-0 to the No 3. Concordia Stingers and finish the season at 0-7. The men's squad played the Montreal Carabins and fell 24-3.
The women's squad under first-year head coach
Adam Spirk suffered their seventh loss of the season to the defending RSEQ Champion Concordia Stingers who in turn finish the 2013 campaign at 7-0. Concordia led 45-0 at halftime and cruised to the victory as they clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Gaiters once again will be on the outside looking in when it comes to the post-season. Spirk will now have his first full offseason to prepare his troops for 2014.
The men's squad travelled to Montreal to face a Carabins team they rolled 48-7 in early September and was yet to win this year. Bishop's players were battling an illness that had infiltrated the team and were unable to muster any offense for the second consecutive game. The Carabins went onto a 24-3 victory with Bishop's lone points coming off the foot of
Andrew Jamieson (Montreal) on a penalty kick.
The entire Bishop's Athletic Department is now on hiatus for Thanksgiving. The women's rugby team's season is finished while the men will prepare to face the Sherbrooke Vert et Or (2-3) in Sherbrooke on Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. Bishop's currently sits in fifth place in the standings, two points behind the Carabins thanks in part to the bonus point system employed by RSEQ University men's rugby. The top four teams will make the playoffs
