Box Score MONTREAL – The Bishop's Gaiters were never able to recover from 20-2 first quarter deficit and eventually fell 66-40 to the No. 10-ranked Concordia Stingers in Montreal on Saturday afternoon. The RSEQ University women's basketball matinee was the Stingers home opener.
Ashley Clarke of the Concordia Stingers (2-0) led by all scorers with 16 points. For Bishop's (0-2) it was
Jenae Grayer (Windsor, Ont.) leading the way with 12 points and eight rebounds.
The young Gaiters once again dug themselves into a hole as they did in their season opener a week ago. Turnovers resulted in the Gaiters playing almost five minutes before they were able to score their first basket.
Bishop's tried to chip away in the second stanza as the Stingers got into early foul trouble. The purple and silver went on a mini-run to start the frame however Concordia answered back and grabbed a 19-point lead, 34-15 at the half.
A sloppy start to the third quarter proved to be uneventful as Concordia maintained a 53-32 lead heading into the final frame thanks in part to being in bonus for half of the quarter.
With the game all but decided in the fourth quarter, Concordia cruised to a 66-40 victory over the Gaiters.
Bishop's will look to snag their first win of the season next Friday, Nov. 22 when the Laval Rouge et Or (0-1) visit Mitchell Gym. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
