GAITERS SOCCER OPENS 2013 CAMPAIGN WITH A PAIR OF GAMES

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer team will open their 2013 RSEQ University season with a pair of games this weekend. They start on Friday, September 6 in Montreal against the Concordia Stingers at 6:30 p.m.  Game two of the weekend is also their home opener.  It takes place on Sunday, September 8 at 1 p.m. on Coulter Field when the UQAM Citadins are in town.

The Gaiters look to turn the corner after a 1-11-2 season a year ago.  Their squad will look quite different as they have 12 first year players on their roster. Once again Bishop's is a popular destination for players from outside of the province.  Fifteen of the 23 players on the Gaiters roster are from Ontario (10 from southern Ontario or the GTA, four from the capital region and one from Belleville).  The remaining players are from Quebec (3), Nova Scotia (2), British Columbia (2) and Alberta (1).

Bishop's will open the 2013 season on Friday when the face the Concordia Stingers. A year ago the Stingers finished fifth in the RSEQ with a 6-5-3 record, beating the Gaiters once while the two teams played to a 1-1 draw on the other occasion. On Sunday the Gaiters will welcome the UQAM Citadins to Coulter Field at 1 p.m.  UQAM beat Bishop's 1-0 in Lennoxville in 2012 and the Gaiters returned the favour, beating the Citadins 2-1 in Montreal on the final game of the regular season.

"We are looking for two wins to start the season on a positive note," said Gaiters head coach Phil Ribaux. "We had the largest number of girls trying out in six years and all of them had talent.  I'm expecting us to take big strides and make some noise in the RSEQ this year."

The Lady Gaiters soccer team will get the 2013 campaign under way on Friday night as they travel to Montreal to face the Concordia Stingers at 6:30 p.m.  They will also make their home debut on Sunday when the UQAM Citadins are in town for a 1 p.m. start.  Follow the Gaiters all year long on the new-look www.gaiters.ca.
