SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team will open the 2014 portion of the RSEQ University season this weekend. The Gaiters travel to UQAM on Friday night and host the Citadins on Saturday in Mitchell Gym. Both games will start at 6 p.m.
The Gaiters took part in the Concordia Invitational tournament in Montreal after Christmas. Bishop's finished the tournament 0-3 falling to Memorial University, Wilfred Laurier University and Queen's University. Third-year guard
Catherine Rondeau (Sherbrooke, Que.) returned to the line-up for the Gaiters after she missed the first part of the regular season with a concussion.
Bishop's (0-4) fell 69-56 to UQAM (4-2) back in November in Lennoxville. The Gaiters are coming off a bye while UQAM played a pair against Concordia (3-3) last weekend. The team's split the contests each winning on their own court.
"UQAM is a good team, one of the top three in our league," said Gaiters head coach
Alex Perno. "I like the home-and-home system, it lets us focus and prepare on one team. Unfortunately for us we are battling the injury bug, we got Rondeau back but lost a couple of others. We are working at moving players around and will have to deal with it."
Bishop's starts the second half of their season with a pair of games against the UQAM Citadins. Friday night the teams tip-off in Montreal and Saturday they play in Mitchell Gym. Both games are set to start at 6 p.m. and can be viewed live online.
