Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's University women's basketball team faced off against the UQAM Citadins on Friday night in Montreal and Saturday night in Lennoxville.  Bishop's was unable to grab a victory however played two very different games.
 
Bishop's started their first home-and-home series at UQAM.  The Gaiters opened the scoring but UQAM took hold of the first half outscoring Bishop's 36-14 through the first and second quarters.  The Gaiters were never able to recover and fell 67-36 to the Citadins. 
 
Leading scorer for the Gaiters was Marie-Michele Paquin (Magog, Que.) with nine points.  Edith Noblecilla (Quito, Ecuador) and Genevieve Onyeka (Toronto) each had five points and five rebounds. 
 
The Lady Gaiters (0-6) had another chance at UQAM (6-2) this time at home on Saturday.  The Gaiters controlled much of the first quarter and outscored the Citadins 10-8.  UQAM found their momentum in the second quarter but Bishop's stuck close.  The visitors led 33-29 at halftime.  A pair from the charity stripe and a layup by first-year center Mara Lis Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina) helped the Gaiters tie the game in the third.  The teams were tied again with seven minutes to play in the fourth frame but UQAM pulled away and the Gaiters could not follow; eventually the Citadins won 63-53. 
 
Top scorer for the Gaiters was Noblecilla with 15 points while Marchizotti had a career-high 13 points and four rebounds.
 
"I was a lot happier with how we competed tonight," said Gaiters bench boss Alex Perno after Saturday's contest. "We are still a very young team and this is our foundation for the future. We made too many mistakes which ultimately cost us the game, however tonight was a lot better than yesterday."
 
The Lady Gaiters will face the Laval Rouge et Or (1-7) on Friday Jan. 24 at home at 6 p.m. and Saturday Jan. 25 in Quebec City at 5 p.m.
