GAITERS HOPE TO RUFFLE FEATHERS AS THEY FACE MARTLETS

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's University women's basketball team will take on the McGill Martlets in Montreal on Thursday night in RSEQ women's university action.  They will in turn host them on Saturday night in Mitchell Gym as part of the Bishop's annual Winter Homecoming festivities.  Both games will tip-off at 6 p.m.

The Lady Gaiters (0-8) are coming off two loses last weekend from a home-and-home series with Laval (3-7).  Bishop's lost 70-46 at home and 54-43 in Quebec City.  The Gaiters had a standout performance by third year guard Catherine Rondeau (Sherbrooke, Que).  She scored 13 points in the first game of the series and nine in the second earning her Provigo, Robert Lafond Bishop's Athlete of the Week honours.

McGill (6-2) was knocked out of first place in the RSEQ after a pair of losses to Concordia (7-3) last weekend.  The Martlets lost 63-53 and 49-47 to the Stingers.  The Gaiters lost 70-39 earlier in the season to McGill.  McGill's Mariam Sylla (Conakry, Guinea) currently leads the RSEQ in scoring at 12.8 points per game and rebounding at 10 per game.

Former Gaiter Ryan Thorne serves as the bench boss for the Martlets.  He was a team captain and MVP for the Gaiters. He graduated in 1999 with a degree in Economics and a CIAU national basketball championship (1998).

The Lady Gaiters will tip-off this weekend against the Martlets on Thursday night in Love Competition Hall and on Saturday night in Mitchell Gym.  Both games will start at 6 p.m. and can be viewed live online.
