SHERBROOKE, Que. – Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby captain Nicolas Charleton earned man of the match honours as the Gaiters defeated cross-town rival Sherbrooke 29-8 at Universite de Sherbrooke Wednesday night. This came a day after the Gaiters golf squads wrapped up the 2014 season with their best finish since 2010. The men tallied a sixth place finish and women ended up in fourth spot.
The men's rugby squad earned their second victory of the year over the Vert er Or, both in convincing fashion. The two foes opened the season on Coulter Field with Bishop's coming out on top 22-0, while a late Sherbrooke try made Wednesday's score 29-8. Charleton (Montreal) booted three converts and added a penalty kick making him responsible for 9 of the purple's points. Four different Gaiters scored tries earning them a bonus point in the standings along the way. The win propels Bishop's into first place in the RSEQ for the time being with 17 points and a 3-1-1 record. Concordia sits in second in the standings at 3-1 (14 points), McGill is in third at 2-1-1 (12 points). The Stingers and Redmen play on Friday night.
