GAITERS RUGBY EARNS HOME PLAYOFF GAME WITH FIRST WIN IN OVER A DECADE AGAINST REDMEN

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Bishop's Gaiters captain Nicolas Charlton converted a Gaiters try in the final minutes of their final regular-season contest against the McGill Redmen on Friday night in Sherbrooke.  The result, a 15-13 win, gave Bishop's their first victory since 2003 against the eight-time defending champions.  It also ensured a rematch in the semi-final on Saturday, Nov. 15, back on Coulter Field. Also on Friday night the men's lacrosse team lost their opening round game at the Baggataway Cup to end their 2014 campaign. On Saturday the men's and women's basketball teams open their regular seasons at McGill.  The women lost but the men beat the Redmen in dramatic finish.

McGill was the first team to heat up on the frigid night on Coulter Field.  They grabbed an 8-0 lead before Charlton (Montreal) booted a penalty through to cut the lead to 8-3 right before halftime. Bishop's tied the game up just over 10 minutes into the second half, however McGill responded five minutes later.  The Redmen held a 13-8 advantage as time ticked away. A late Bishop's try by Lee Hudson (Sutton, Que.) tied the score and set the stage for Charlton who made no mistake and lifted the Gaiters to the victory and a 4-0-0 record on home soil in 2014.

Men's Lacrosse
The men's lacrosse team saw their season come to a pre-mature end on Friday night in Oshawa, Ontario at the 2014 Baggataway Cup. A fourth quarter surge by Guelph propelled the defending champions to a 13-9 win over the Gaiters.  It was the second consecutive year Guelph knocked the Gaiters out of the championships in the quarterfinal.  As in 2013 Guelph went on to claim victories on Saturday over Brock and Sunday over McGill and repeat as champions.
