SHERBROOKE, Que. – Home field advantage is on the line for the Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby squad as they host the McGill Redmen in their final RSEQ University men's rugby regular season game on Friday night at 7 p.m. on Coulter Field. While in Oshawa, Ont. the men's lacrosse team will play a quarterfinal win-or-go-home game against the Guelph Gryphons in the 2014 Baggataway Cup on Friday at 6 p.m.
Men's rugby (4-2-1, 21 points) currently sits in a tie for second place in the RSEQ with the Concordia Stingers. The two squads have identical records and have each topped one another by 13 points. The Stingers host fourth place Montreal (3-4, 13 points) also at 7 p.m. on Friday night. First-place McGill (4-1-2, 24 points) makes the trek to Lennoxville to face the Gaiters. A Bishop's win will ensure them a home playoff game. Depending on outcomes Bishop's, Concordia and McGill can finish in any combination of first, second and third. To complicate matters the RSEQ uses the bonus point system meaning it will take final results in both games to determine the 2014 playoff matchups. Earlier this season the Gaiters and Redmen battled to a 23-23 tie in Montreal, the Gaiters best result against their Montreal foes since 2002.
