GAITERS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHERBROOKE, Que. – Rookie Janae Grayer perhaps gave fans a glimpse of what the future holds for the Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team.  Despite a pair of losses Grayer led Bishop's in scoring in their final two games of the RSEQ University regular season.  The Gaiters lost 63-43 to the Concordia Stingers on Friday and 62-50 to the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday.

On a Friday night that honoured three graduating seniors, it was the first-year Grayer (Windsor, Ont.) who stepped up and took leadership of the team on the court.  She scored 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting in 30 minutes of court time.  She was also a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe and grabbed seven rebounds. Bishop's said thanks to Catherine Rondeau (Sherbrooke, Que.), Marie-Michele Paquin (Magog, Que.) and Charlotte Jorunn Mathiessen (Olso, Norway) in a post-game ceremony as they all graduate after this season.

Saturday the Gaiters were in the provincial capital to face Laval in their final game of the season. In an attempt to chalk up their first win of the season, Bishop's fell behind early and were never quite able to recover.  Despite chipping away at the Rouge et Or's advantage throughout the second half, Laval pulled away to the 62-50 victory.  Grayer once again led the way with 11 points and four rebounds.

The Gaiters 2013-14 campaign comes to an end with the young Gaiters squad gaining valuable experience. At times they competed with some of the country's best while at other times they showed their youth.  With nine first-year players on the roster, the Gaiters future promises to be bright.
