Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

GAITERS STRONGER EFFORT NOT ENOUGH AS STINGERS SWIPE A PAIR

SHERBROOKE, Que. – On Thursday, January 15 the Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team travelled to the scene of their worst defeat of the season to face the Concordia Stingers in Montreal in RSEQ University basketball action.  The hosts once again defended their court and rolled to a 69-32 victory.  Saturday, January 17 the two squads tipped off again, this time in Lennoxville in the New Gymnasium at Bishop's University. Despite a stronger effort from the purple, the end result was the same, Concordia triumphed 62-48.

Gaiters' sophomore Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aries, Argentina) netted seven points, and grabbed three rebounds on Thursday night to lead the way.  Rookie Noemie Hamel-Petit chipped in with six points and six rebounds.  She added two blocks and a steal in 26 minutes on the court.

Saturday Marchizotti once again was a key cog in the Gaiters' effort.  She scored 12 points, hauled in 13 rebounds and added one block, one assist and a steal in 36 minutes of play. Point guard Edith Noblecilla scored 13 points; grabbed four rebounds, handed out four assists and had three steals while playing 35 minutes.

As a group Concordia took 23 more field goal attempts; they were 7-for-33 from behind the arc and managed to shoot just 32.4 percent from the floor. However, they turned the ball over just eight times compared to 22 for the Gaiters. Marilyse Roy-Viau (Mirabel, Que.) led all scorers with 16 points.  She was one of four Stingers in double figures.

Bishop's (0-8) is next in action on Friday, January 23 in Quebec City against the Laval Rouge et Or (3-5).  The two squads will turn around quickly to play the second half of a home and home double header on Saturday, January 24 in Lennoxville.

Ultimately all women's basketball teams in the RSEQ will strive to earn a spot in the RSEQ Final-4 slated for March 5-7 in Mitchell Gymnasium on the Bishop's University campus.
