SHERBROOKE, Que. – Thanksgiving weekend was one to forget on the field and pitch for the Bishop's Gaiters. Lacrosse lost at McGill on Thursday night, men's rugby fell to the Redmen on Friday and the women's rugby team lost at Carleton on Sunday.
LacrosseFive Gaiters each recorded a two points on Thursday night in Montreal as the lacrosse team fell for the second in a week to the McGill Redmen. The 10-7 final in favour of the Redmen means McGill locks up top spot in the CUFLA East and punches their ticket to the Baggataway Cup semi-final, an event that will be hosted by Bishop's from Nov. 6-8. The Gaiters meanwhile will finish in second place in their division and will play in the quarterfinals of the CUFLA Championships on the Friday night. The Gaiters are next on the field on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. when the Ottawa Gee-Gees visit Coulter Field.
Men's RugbyOn Friday, Oct. 9, the men's rugby teams suffered the same fate as the lacrosse squad did the night earlier. They fell 26-14 to the Redmen at Percival Molson Stadium. For Bishop's
Lee Hudson (Sutton, Que.) and
Scott Best (Ottawa) scored the tries while
Josh Bray (Lennoxville, Que.) was successful on both conversions. The loss means Bishop's currently sits in second place in their division in the RSEQ men's rugby conference with two games remaining. They next step onto the pitch on Friday, Oct. 16 against ETS at 7 p.m.
Women's RugbyThe women's rugby squad stepped onto the field for their penultimate contest on Sunday. They were in the nation's capital to face the Carleton Ravens. Bishop's effort came up just short as the Gaiters lost 32-19.
Gina Patenaude (Bolton-Ouest, Que.),
Andi Smith (Martinville, Que.) and rookie sensation
Erika Scott (Dewittville, Que.) scored tries for the Gaiters and
Emily Norris (Ogden, Que.) booted through a pair of conversions. Bishop's wraps up their 2015 campaign on Thursday, Oct. 15 at McGill at 7 p.m.
