SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby team is putting their final touches on preparation for the RSEQ University quarter-final they are set to host on Coulter Field on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. Standing in their way of a semifinal berth are their cross-town rivals the Sherbrooke Vert et Or.
The Gaiters finished the regular season with a 4-2-1 record in the re-vamped RSEQ men's university rugby league. Their record put them in second place in their division, trailing only McGill. As a result the Gaiters will host Sherbrooke (0-7-0) who finished in third place in their division.
Despite the difference in records the Gaiters and Vert et Or battled in their only meeting of the 2015 campaign. The result was a Bishop's narrow 19-17 victory on Coulter Field on Sept. 20.
The two squads have contrasting styles. Sherbrooke will lean on their enormous forward pack to take control inside while Bishop's will look to use its speed and tactical play to their advantage.
Saturday will be a game of friendly foes. A number of former teammates from summer club rugby, most notably with the Sherbrooke Abenakis will battle against each other for the right to move onto the RSEQ semifinal.
Positions will be re-seeded after the first round of playoffs. Should Bishop's advance they will have a date with the Montreal Carabins in Montreal while if Sherbrooke is successful they will travel to face McGill in the penultimate weekend of rugby action.
The Bishop's-Sherbrooke game will kick off on Coulter Field on Saturday at 2 p.m. and is free of charge to attend. It will also be streamed live at
