SHERBROOKE, Que. –
Lee Hudson scored a try for the Bishop's Gaiters 31 minutes into Friday's RSEQ Men's Rugby contest to give Bishop's a lead they did not relinquish. The Gaiters topped the previously unbeaten Montreal Carabins 20-12 on Coulter Field to cap the annual homecoming Friday triple header.
Earlier in the day the Gaiters women's soccer team fell to the McGill Martlets and the women's rugby team lost to Laval while the men's lacrosse team fell 7-6 to McGill on Thursday night.
Hudson (Sutton, Que.) once again battled through pain playing the number eight position for the purple. He helped the Gaiters bounce back from a sluggish start to earn their third consecutive win of the year and improve their record to 3-1-0.
Montreal jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, just three minutes into the game. Bishop's got on the board at the 20 minute mark before Hudson gave Bishop's the advantage. Captain Nic Charlton (Montreal) kicked through a penalty on the last play of the first half and Bishop's was up 15-7 at the break. The Carabins cut into the lead four minutes into second half but Bishop's battled back earning their third try of the night less than five minutes later to give them a 20-12 lead, an advantage they maintained until the final whistle.
"That was the longest second half of my entire life," said Gaiters coach
Charles Goode. "Montreal had the ball for most of the half and we were able to hold them to only one try. We've been working hard on our defense and I'm proud of how implemented it tonight."

Only one goal was scored in the first quarter, it was in favour of the visitors. They maintained their one goal advantage at the halftime break, 3-2.
Bishop's came out on fire in the third quarter, and even grabbed a brief lead. Their advantage, the only of the game for the hosts, lasted just 1:30 as McGill answered back then scored two more to end the frame on top 6-4. They potted their seventh goal of the game just over eight minutes into the fourth quarter. The tally was their last but proved to be enough as McGill narrowly held on for a 7-6 win and solo first place in their division.
A Gaiters-Redmen rematch is set for Thursday, Oct. 8 in Montreal.
