SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby team heads to Montreal on Friday for an RSEQ semifinal tilt with the Montreal Carabins at 8 p.m.
Bishop's (4-2-1) finished second in their division behind McGill (6-0-1). Finishing second meant the Gaiters had to play a quarter-final against Sherbrooke (0-7-0) to move on in the playoffs. They beat the Vert et Or 15-7 on Saturday on Coulter Field. Montreal (5-2-0) finished first in their division to earn the bye to the semifinal. The Gaiters beat Montreal 20-12 when they visited Lennoxville on Oct. 2. On Friday night a ticket to the RSEQ Championship will be on the line for the Gaiters.
"We are going to have to be at our absolute best to get to the final," said Gaiters bench boss
Charles Goode. "I like the way the team is going, we are clicking at the right time and we are not running into injury trouble right now."
McGill will host ETS (1-6-0) in the second RSEQ semifinal. ETS stunned the defending RSEQ Champion Concordia Stingers in their quarter-final.
The Gaiters faired very well in the RSEQ 2015 men's rugby all-stars and major award winners.
Leading the way was Bishop's Gaiters 8-man
Lee Hudson (Sutton, Que.) who was named RSEQ Player of the Year.
Scott Best (Ottawa) and
Shayne Crawford (Sherbrooke, Que.) also join Hudson on the RSEQ all-star team.
