QUEBEC CITY – The No. 7 Laval Rouge et Or defended their home pitch with a convincing 111-7 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters women's rugby team on Saturday. The Gaiters were awarded the try after a Laval foul was committed as the Gaiters were entering the try zone.

Taylor Merrithew broke through the Rouge et Or before dishing the ball off and earning the score.
Sheila Couture converted. Merrithew was named Gaiters' game MVP.
"Despite the score I think there were certainly positives for us," said Gaiters' head coach
Adam Spirk. "We had some good offensive possessions capped by a great ball movement for our try. Laval is a very good team and at times we were able penetrate and gain ground. We have work to do but can build on this."
With the loss the Gaiters fall to 0-5 this year while Laval improves to 4-1. Next up for the Gaiters are the Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in Sherbrooke.
